CIRCULATION
Borrowing materials
Lecturers, staff, and students may borrow
books at the Circulation Desk upon presentation of a valid KPTM ID.
Patrons who check out library materials are responsible for the materials
until they are officially returned to the Library. Your KPTM
ID is not transferable and any patron found violating this
rule will be suspended from borrowing privileges.
Loan Periods
The loan period for circulating items is
14 days, unless they are being recalled. The loan periods vary in
accordance to patrons’ status, and item type. Therefore, patrons
should take note of the due date marked on each item. The Library reserves
the right to recall any material on loan. Determination of due dates
do not include public holidays or days when the Library is closed.

Recalls
The Library reserves the right to recall
any material on loan. A fine of $2.00 per day will be imposed
for failure to respond to a recall notice.
Renewals
Books can be renewed at the Circulation
Desk. Renewals should be made on or before the due date. Overdue charges
will be levied for items past their due dates. A patron has to inform
the library staff in person about a renewal and produce the book
at the Circulation Desk. Books cannot be renewed if they are on hold for
another patron; or have been renewed twice before; or if the patron’s library
record has been blocked.
Overdue Fines
Patrons are expected to be responsible
for keeping track of due dates and returning materials on time. Notices
are posted within 7 days of the item being overdue and a fine will
be imposed. Failure to receive a notice does not exempt patrons from fines.
Unpaid fines can result in suspension of borrowing privileges, cancellation
of membership, blocked transcripts, and delayed graduation.

Reservation of materials
If a patron wishes to obtain an item that
is already in circulation, a request for a reservation on that item may
be made at the Circulation Desk. Once the item is returned, it will be
kept for 7 days for the new borrower. If the item is not claimed
by the new borrower, it will either be returned to the shelves or lent
out to the next patron on the list.
Loss or Damage of materials
Every borrower is held responsible for
the condition of the items borrowed. Any loss or damage of items should
be reported immediately. The Library has the authority to ask for compensation
in the form of a replacement of the lost or damaged materials. The borrower
will be charged the cost of the item, a processing fee of RM25.00
and the accumulated fines.
In cases where the current price is not
available, the price will be determined based on the original purchase
price through the acquisition records with an increase of 10% per
annum [date of purchase] and subject to a maximum increase of 100%.
In cases where the price of the book cannot
be determined, the following fines may be imposed :
-
Local books - pay an estimated amount
not exceeding RM100 and processing fee RM25.00.
-
Imported books - pay an estimated price
not exceeding RM300 and processing fee of RM25.00.
Payment for replacement of lost or damaged
materials is not refundable after one month from the date the payment has
been made. Suspension of Borrowing
Privileges
A patron will be suspended from borrowing
privileges if the due date exceeds 14 days. In such a case, the patron
will be suspended for one month for the first record, and one semester
for the subsequent record. In the event when privileges are being terminated,
no circulation transactions will be extended until all fines have been
paid.
Address Change
It is the responsibility of every
patron to notify the Library of any change of address, phone number,
or email address to avoid unnecessary difficulties in contacting patrons
regarding reservation, overdues, and fines. Failure to notify the
Library may result in problems when trying to contact patrons. Failure
to receive mail or read overdue notices will not be accepted as grounds
for reduction or cancellation of fines.
